Gala Officiating Policy

Gala Officiating Policy

At all Swim Ireland galas the Club is obliged to provide officials. The more Club swimmers entered the more officials we must provide.

To facilitate this it is expected that parents/guardians of all swimmers in the Development and Competitive squads will act as officials from time to time using the following guidelines

When the Officiating roster is available from Swim Ireland (usually during the week before the gala), parents/guardians will be contacted and allocated a job. One parent will be designated as the “coordinator”. The coordinator will ensure that the Club satisfies its obligations. If necessary they will stand in for any ‘no shows’.

Positions will be allocated from a listing of the swimmers who have entered the gala, in alphabetical order of surname and of first name.

For galas where there are separate ‘finals’sessions, the parents/guardians of swimmers who have reached the finals will be expected to officiate. This will be organised by the coordinator on the day.

If parents/guardians cannot make that gala they will be expected to advise the Club Organiser (not the coordinator) as soon as possible and be prepared to officiate at the next gala.

The swimmer whose parents/guardians have officiated will be placed at the bottom of the listing.

Families with more than one swimmer can expect to officiate more than once.

If parents/guardians fail to meet their responsibility the swimmer will not be allowed to enter a gala again until parents/guardians are in a position to officiate.

Parents with key skills may be asked to officiate more often.

If required the Club will arrange suitable training for parents.
